Perth is the capital of Western Australia, a modern, dynamic city that also has quiet areas. The town is located on Australia’s West Coast and is considered one of the most isolated cities in the country. Initially, convicts were brought in to increase the work force. Most government buildings were built with their sweat.

Perth is full of parks, beautiful beaches, and a dense transportation network. Air pollution is relatively low and so is crime. Perth has the most sunny days of all of Australia’s large cities, and weather is mostly warm. No wonder that the British weekly “The Economist” rates Perth as 4th on the list of places with a high quality of life in the world. Perth is considered cheaper than towns on the East Coast of Australia (like Sydney and Melbourne). This also shows in its real estate prices. Living in Pert - Attractions

Kings Park is considered Perth’s “Central Park” and can be reached after a short ride from city center. It includes a botanical garden with more than 1700 different species of flowers and wild plants all over the garden (especially in spring). The park has walking and bicycle paths and is also accessible for people using wheelchairs. It offers a view of the city and the western Swan River. You can find restaurants, coffee shops, playgrounds, specially set-aside picnic areas, and public toilets.

Swan Tower is Western Australia’s “Statue of Liberty.” The tower, which is shaped like a Swan, rises up 87 meters high. It is more than just a tower, being both a musical instrument and a very popular tourist attraction. As we mentioned before, it is the symbol of Western Australia. From the top of the tower, you can see Perth’s amazing setting. Entrance fee: $6.

Underwater World is one of Perth’s most popular tourist attractions. The aquarium contains many kinds of maritime creatures such as sharks and tortoises. So far, 4.3 million people have visited the site since its opening in 1988. There are also special activities for children. Opening hours: from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. Entrance fee: $22 for adults.

Freemantle Harbour is southwest of Perth on Australia’s West Coast. It is a very popular tourist spot, and on weekends, it usually features fairs and entertainment activities. You will also find lots of coffee shops and restaurants.

Northbridge is Perth’s nightlife area. There are also hotels, restaurants, and coffee shops. This is the place where you will find your favorite foods in a wide range of restaurants offering Italian, Greek, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisine.

Public transportation

In the center of town, CAT buses can be used free of charge. The company runs 3 lines (red, blue and yellow) each serving a different area. You can also use the Transperth buses free of charge in certain areas, including, among others, Perth’s east and west. A trip from Perth to the Freemantle beaches, for example, costs only $3.

There are 4 train lines in Perth, which will take you to the city’s northern, southern, and eastern neighborhoods. There is also a special line to the Freemantle beaches. An Australian saying goes that Perth may not be the end of the world, but you can see it from there!
